2010 U.S. O'Pen Cup, New Bedford Community Boating
The 2010 U.S. O'Pen Cup fired off this weekend in New Bedford MA, with a mixture of racing, freestyle, and fun that makes the "Un-Regattas" popular. Giant Slalom brought the kids jibing boat lengths from the spectators, and perhaps the highlight of the event was the Le Mans beach start in race four. Haley Okun from Hyannis YC showed mastery of all courses and took the overall racing honors, and the Twelve and Over age division. Anthony Yopp, from Meredith, NH, used his ski slalom tactics to best the Under 12s. Raz Sayre (Vineyard Haven, MA) defended his freestyle title busting out a combination of rock ‘n roll tail sinks, hood ornaments, boom push ups, and his new signature move, "the Shark".
The summer O'Pen BIC "Un-Regatta" calendar winds down Aug 28 with the Gorge O'Pen Cup at Cascade Locks, Oregon, before moving to Florida for the winter O'Pen BIC series. For U.S. O'Pen Cup click here
