Vichuquen O'pen Cup - 24 January 2009

Vichuquen O'pen Cup - 24 January 2009

The Chilean O'pen BIC season got underway recently with the first event being held on Lake Vichuquén, and gathered some of the best junior talent in Chile under the watchful eyes of the Argentinian trainer Cristián Noé.

5 races were held, 4 validated, in S/SW winds of 10 to 14 knots. The strong enthusiasm of the sailors, matched with equally strong technique, was evident both in the very tight starts and finishes.

In the boys, the Ducasse brothers dominated most of the racing. The girls were not far behind either, of note was the performance of Francisca Ugarte who certainly gave the Ducasse brothers a good battle. Her brothers Tomás and Santiago Ugarte also showed some great sailing skills in the U12 category.

A great time was had by all and many thanks go to those who helped organise this first event :Municipalité de Vichuquén, Hotel La Hostería de Vichuquén, Marinos de Chile, Nautisport, La Tercera, H2O, MallSport, Land Rover & of course Cristián Noé.

We are already looking forward to the next event that will be held back in Santiago, on Lake Piedra Roja, on the 21 March 2009.

The O'pen BIC... for ENERGIZED sailing!
