9.00am, the tradewind is already blowing and showing 12 knots on the anemometer. Three "square" course races are about to be run. From the very first leg, Breton sailor Brice Iriex from la Trinite, shows exceptional speed and course reading, leading the field through the side and downwind sections. Behind him, Simon Jestin from CNPK, American racer Geronimo Nore, and German MarcWoitshöll hang on, trying not to drop too far behind. Holland's Thom Lugthard and French racer Vianney Bergot, the two stars of World Cup 2009, are relegated to 10th and 12th places respectively. As the race rounds continue, Vianney and Thom begin to claw their way back up the ranking, but not enough to catch Brice who manages to combine stunning tactical nous with ridiculous speed in all directions. He all but ecplipses the excellent performance by Zelie Alerte from the Marin club in Martinique.
During the afternoon the wind creeps up another notch and three downwind "slalom" races are quickly completed, doing nothing to change the rankings. Brice stays well out in front with Vianney, Jestin, Marc and Thom slugging it out for the other podium positions. These races result in a good deal of exciting action at the marker buoys, giving the spectators plenty to appreciate from their seats in the temporary "stand" on a giant catamaran.
For the evening's action, dinner at the Carayou, one of Martinique's most beautiful and exclusive hotels.
Party on !
