Open Bic Spiregatta, Baldeneysee bei Essen, DE, 9-10 May 09

Last weekend (May 9th/10th), the sailing club Scheppen (SKS) run the first official O'pen BIC Cup in Germany with great success. The location was the Baldeneysee close to the city of Essen in the western part of Germany.

Not less than 17 sailors found their way to the opening event of this year's O'pen BIC events in Germany.
There were four races in total including one traditional up and down wind course, one slalom course and two freestyle races. The kids enjoyed all courses a lot and were especially amazed by the discipline freestyle as it includes different and very exciting manoeuvres.

Winner of the first German O'pen BIC Cup was Luisa Krüger
, who calls the Baldeneysee her home spot and who knew the conditions best. She scored 4.0 points. Katharina Kennemann followed on the 2nd place with 7.0 points. The decision about the 3rd place was taken out between the two twin sisters Melanie and Sonja Heinrich. In the end Melanie took the 3rd place with 9.0 points.
The girls were really strong among the 17 participants. The best male sailor was Patrick Ruess who finished on the 7th position.

It was a fascinating to experience the enthusiasm of the young O'pen BIC sailors and we are looking forward to the O'pen BIC Cups ahead.

On 16th/17th May the second German O'pen BIC Cup will take place at the Blausteinsee. There are already 12 kids registered. It seems that the success of the O'pen BIC in Germany is growing and the dinghy gets established really fast.
