The first San Marino O'PEN BIC Championship, organized by the Club Nautico Rimini in collaboration with the Association of O'pen class Bic Class SMR, San Marino Sailing Federation, the Italian Sailing Federation and O'PEN BIC Italy, was held on Sunday, September 18th.
The race was also the first stage of the 2016 Adriatic Interzonal Circuit.
32 boats - 15 under-16 athletes and 17 under-13 athletes - competed in the waters off the dock of Rimini in three hard-fought races.
An excellent performance by home athletes from the Club Nautico Rimini, coached by Laura Pennati, secured the first five positions in both categories with:
• Olga Fregni 1st under 16 overall and 1st girl;
• Vittori Podeschi 1st Under-13
• Lucrezia Luna Ricci 1st Under-13 girl.
An absolutely outstanding performance by San Marino athletes.
Under 13: 1st Vittorio Podeschi, 2nd Pietro Cardelli, 3rd Lucrezia Luna Ricci, 4th Rosa Giulinelli. 11th Under-16: 11 ° Azur Podeschi
The regatta has also awarded the first national titles in the category San Marino O'pen Bic won by:
• Category Under 13 boy: Vittorio Podeschi
• Category under 13 girl: Lucrezia Luna Ricci

The award ceremony was attended by Their Excellencies the Captains Regent of the Republic of San Marino S.E. Gian Nicola Berti - S.E. Massimo Andrea Ugolini, the prefect of Rimini Giuseppa Dr. Strange and the commander of the Harbor Rimini Captain Domenico Santisi.
It was a beautiful day of sailing despite the weather. All athletes  competed with commitment and sportsmanship by showing the high level achieved, thanks to the work of the technical staff of the Club Nautico Rimini led by Laura Pennati.
For the association this was a historic day - first race, first national titles, excellent results obtained by the athletes and the honour of the presence of Their Excellencies the Captains Regent.
In just a few months we were able to do great work thanks to the excellent collaboration with the Club Nautico Rimini.
A day that we will remember for a long time, a small step towards building a program of activities in O'pen Bic for the year 2017 and working at the same time towards even longer-term goals. We follow with interest the 29er Class for youths and the Olympic 49er sailing class, so that San Marino athletes at the end of their journey in the O’pen Bic class can continue racing competitively in the sailing world.
Work continues towards a return to compete in the next round of the International Circuit of the Adriatic in October and the European Championship in late October on Lake Garda.
